"Diwali" or Deepavali is a hindu festival of lights originating from the Indian sub-continent celebrated every year in autumn 15th day of hindu month. Kartika in the northern hemisphere.

Observances:Diya and lighting, home decoration, shoping, fireworks,puja (prayer), gifts.

History:Hindus interpret the diwali story basssed upon,where they live in northern India. They celebrate the story of king Rama's (7th avtar of vishnu)return to Ayodha after he defeated Ravanaby lighting rows of clay lamps southern India celebrates it as the day lord Krishna defeated the Demon Narakasur.

Diwali is a five day celebration which occurs on the fifteenth day of the hindu month of Kartika. On the day of Diwali, people light diyas(oil lamps) outside their houses to welcome goddess Lakshmi and light up firecrackers to illuminate the sky.
